NUMERICAL EXPERIMENTS ON OVERHANGING PARAPETS UNDER NON-BREAKING WAVE CONDITIONS

چکیده

Sea-wall and storm-wall structures aim to protect coastal areas harbours from wave attacks. They are often located in the neighbours of city centres, that turn impose rather severe visual limits affecting maximum height structure. To combine architectonical restrictions overtopping safety limits, imposed by different national standards, alternative solutions such as recurved parapet applied. Even for non-breaking conditions, these subjected large impulsive pressure has been recently described named Confined-Crest impact, (C-CI, Castellino et al., 2018). The C-CI cause recent failures Civitavecchia harbour (Italy, 2021 Dermentzoglou 2020). Accordingly, this phenomenon raised attention researchers professionals who require an additional tool design curvilinear considering reduction performance, structure complexity C-CI.

Experimental and Numerical Studies on Wave Breaking Characteristics over a Fringing Reef under Monochromatic Wave Conditions

Fringing reefs play an important role in protecting the coastal area by inducing wave breaking and wave energy dissipation. However, modeling of wave transformation and energy dissipation on this topography is still difficult due to the unique structure. In the present study, two-dimensional laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate the cross-shore variations of wave transformation, ...

Assessment of chemical dispersant effectiveness in a wave tank under regular non-breaking and breaking wave conditions.

Current chemical dispersant effectiveness tests for product selection are commonly performed with bench-scale testing apparatus. However, for the assessment of oil dispersant effectiveness under real sea state conditions, test protocols are required to have hydrodynamic conditions closer to the natural environment, including transport and dilution effects. To achieve this goal, Fisheries and Oc...

Numerical Simulation of Wave Breaking

Wave breaking is important for understanding of both sea wave dynamics and microwave scattering/emission of the ocean. Experimental studies of breaking waves are mostly related to tank measurements and to a lesser extent to field observations [1, 2]. Theoretical results regarding wave breaking are mostly obtained by numerical simulation [3]. Comparison of those with tank experiments leads to th...

Numerical computation of wave breaking times

The time of nonlinear wave collapse is computed numerically for the Hopf equation. Previous numerical criteria for locating the time of wave collapse are either computationally prohibitive to implement or give erroneous results. A new criterion for this purpose is developed analytically using asymptotic analysis of the wave shock development shortly after breaking. The criterion defines the wav...

Numerical Modeling and Experiments for Solitary Wave Shoaling and Breaking over a Sloping Beach

This research deals with the validation of fluid dynamic models, used for simulating shoaling and breaking solitary waves on slopes, based on experiments performed at the Ecole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Marseille’s (ESIM) laboratory. A separate paper, also presented at this conference, reports on experiments. In a first part of this work, a fully nonlinear potential flow model based on a Bound...
